If Casey Anthony was "of color" or a poor white there would not be as much interest in her case. And where would she be right now...sitting in a jail cell. Nobody would be appearing out of the blue to bail her butt out of jail. There would no fancy lawyers, public relations firms, or bodyguards. Casey would have a public defender who could barely find the time to work on her case.
And it is not just because she is white. Her special treatment is because she is white and middle class. Being poor and white means that you get substandard justice too. We are fascinated because she seems like she should have it all. Mom is a nurse, dad is a retired cop. Even with a child, she should be working and going to college. Because that is what middle class girls do when they get pregnant. We are fascinated because we want to know where it all went wrong.
George shoved two protesters yesterday, and at least one of them is thinking of pressing charges. Yes, they were being annoying, but they were standing on the sidewalk. And sidewalks are public property. It's kind of sad to watch George fall apart in public. And then knowing that his daughter, and to some extent his wife, have done this to him. Didn't the public relation firm tell them to ignore these people, just walk into their home like the crowds weren't there. I think some people are showing up to see if the Anthonys are going to scream at the crowds and act like freaks. Things have gotten so bad that the family has installed security cameras. Where did the money come from? Security cameras are surprisingly affordable if you install them yourself. We have them, it cost about $200 a camera and a twelve pack of beer for the neighbor that installed them. But they used a professional crew. So you know they weren't paid in beer. And neither of the senior Anthonys seem to be working and have thousand going out. So if they aren't selling their story, where is all this money coming from?
