Travis Barker, DJ AM Survive Deadly Plane Crash



Columbia Columbia (WLTX) - A lear jet crashed while attempting to take off at Columbia Metropolitan Airport, killing four people an injuring popular musicians Travis Barker and "D.J. AM."
An airport spokesperson says a lear jet--a small, private passenger plane--crashed just after take off a little before midnight Friday.

At this time, it appears the plane was attempting to take off, ran off the runway, through a fence, and hit an embankment along Highway 302.

The fuselage of the plane was badly burned.

Six people were aboard the airplane. Federal officials say two crew members and two passengers have been killed. All have now been identified.

The deceased are identified as the following:

--Sarah Lemmon, 31. She was the pilot. She is from Anaheim, California.

--James Bland, 52, of Carlsband, California.

--Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, California.

--Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles, California.

CBS News has confirmed that Travis Barker, a drummer who once was a member of the rock bank "Blink 182", and D.J. AM, who's real name is Adam Goldstein, were aboard that plane, and survived. They have been taken to the hospital for treatment at the Augusta Burn Center, and they both are in critical condition.

Barker and Goldstein were in Columbia Friday night as part of a concert in Columbia's Five Points.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen told the associated press that air traffic controllers reported seeing sparks on the runway. Bergen says the Lear 60 was headed to Van Nuys, Calif.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to arrive in moments.

While emergency crews deal with the immediate aftermath, there are no departures or arrivals at the airport. Airport officials hope to have the airport up and running again by mid-morning. There are also roadblocks along 302, so drivers in the area should take alternative routes.

Barker, in addition to his music, is known for appearing in an MTV reality show, "Meet the Barkers," which chronicaled his life with his ex-wife, Shanna Moakler. Barker and Moakler are divorced and have two children.

DJ AM is a popular DJ from the L.A. area who might be best known for his relationship and engagement to Nicole Ritchie. He was also a member of the group, "Crazytown," a group best known for the hit "Butterfly."

DJ AM and Barker recently performed together at the MTV Video Music Awards.
