New Nintendo DS Coming

Nintendo has announced that it will be producing a new Nintendo DS, the DSi. The Nintendo DSi will be thinner, have larger screens (3.25 inches), and a .3 megapixel camera. The DSi also features an SD memory card slot, making it possible to take pictures with the DSi and then view them on the Nintendo Wii. The DSi features a built-in browser, and it's possible to download games and keep them on the DSi. There will also be a DSi shop where owners can download digital purchases.

It will be available in Japan starting 1 November, and in the rest of the world next year. If you cannot wait, it will probably be available at Play-Asia.com. That is where my kids by their Japanese video games from. They have international shipping.

But I don't think that this is a rush out and buy product. I'm going to try and convince my boys to wait for the second generation. Because the DSi has reduced battery life from 15-19 hours to 9-14. The best time for the DSi is worse than the lowest battery time for the DS Lite. And the new console will not accept GBA games. We have almost a decade of Nintendo handheld games laying around the house, and it would be a shame if they could no longer be played. That was one of the best things about Nintendo the games were always compatible with the next generation of console.
