Cole Puffinburger Victim Of Drug Trade
LAS VEGAS — A relative of a boy allegedly kidnapped by men posing as police officers may have owned a Mexican drug cartel, FOX News has learned.
Police said the family of 6-year-old Cole Puffinburger was involved in the illegal drug trade.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal characterized the link as a multimillion-dollar Mexican drug cartel owned by a relative. Some reports said the boy's grandfather ran the illicit drug ring. (Haven't these people ever heard of security. Where were their security cameras? For heaven's sake, if you're going to run a drug ring, you better have a way of verifying who is at your door. Does no one have common sense. I know they were dealing drugs, a stupid thing to do in the first place, but complete stupidity is inexcusable.)
Detectives are hunting for a "person of interest" in the nationwide search for Cole, who was abducted from a Las Vegas home by a band of men posing as police officers. (Next time ask to see a badge first if you didn't call the police. You have the right to do that before opening the door. I know I'm paranoid, but I'm a single woman with two children, my mother and grandmother to protect.)
Las Vegas police Capt. Vincent Cannito wouldn't say Friday who police are looking for, or whether investigators think he's in southern Nevada or somewhere else. (Of course if he isn't in southern Nevada he has to be somewhere else)
A country-wide Amber Alert remains in effect for the boy.
Cannito said the two Hispanic men who tied up the child's mother and her boyfriend at their house Wednesday morning and abducted the boy were after "significant money and drugs." A third man may also have been involved. He said Cole's family was tied to the illegal drug trade. (But they still called the police when their kid went missing. They are more concerned about Cole's safety than themselves. Anthony family this is how a normal family acts when a child goes missing.)
Police aren't saying whether a ransom demand has been made.
Two men identified themselves as police officers to gain entry to the home several miles northeast of downtown Las Vegas, Cannito said. They demanded money, then ransacked the home and tied up the couple.
"This child witnessed that," he said Thursday. "This child was ripped from the home." (The kidnappers know that they are more likely to get what they want by taking the child instead of one of the adults.)
The boy is described as 3 feet 11 and 48 pounds, with blond hair, blue eyes and silver-framed glasses. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, tennis shoes, a black shirt, and a black zip-up sweat shirt with white, black and blue stars.
One suspect is described as having black, shoulder-length, slicked-back hair. The man, in his early 30s, is about 5 feet 7 and 150 pounds and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
Authorities do not have a description of the other men or the getaway car, which delayed the initial posting Wednesday of the statewide alert.
Las Vegas Police are asking anyone with information to call their missing persons unit. (Pray for Cole's safe return, because this could turn out so badly. No matter what the adults in his life did he deserves to be found, it's not his fault. Hopefully the kidnappers will just leave him somewhere alive.)
