Caylee Anthony Update 23 October
A Florida couple says they think their granddaughter is still alive even though a grand jury has returned a murder indictment in her disappearance.
George and Cindy Anthony told interviewer Meredith Viera on NBC's "Today" show Wednesday that they have not given up hope of finding Caylee Marie alive, The Orlando Sentinel reported. (I can understand why they still hope that Caylee is alive. If your granddaughter was missing, and your daughter was charged wouldn't you still be hoping. Think what they must admit to themselves in order to give up hope. I think they know on some level that Caylee is gone, but that doesn't mean that they have to give up the hope that someday Caylee is going to walk through their door.)
Cindy Anthony called the murder indictment another "tactic" to prevent lawyers for her daughter, Casey, from viewing evidence in the case. ( A judge has ruled that her defense team can have access to the evidence to some extent, and they can be there for further testing. Her being charged doesn't change that one bit. What is has done is given her neighbors some relief.)
She also told "Inside Edition," "I believe (Caylee's) out there and I believe we're going to find her." Her husband told "Inside Edition" he has never questioned whether his daughter had something to do with the disappearance of his granddaughter. "I've never asked myself that. The reason why is I know she would never do that," he said. (That isn't what he said in his police interview. Remember his comments about her reaction when he tried to get in her trunk. Watch that here.)
Last week, an Orange County grand jury charged Casey Anthony, 22, with first-degree murder in her then 2-year-old daughter's disappearance more than three months ago.
Anthony also faces charges of aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child and four counts of providing false information to law enforcement officers.
Earlier charges of child neglect have been dropped, the report said.
The state's attorney's office said the neglect charges were premised on the theory that Caylee Marie was still alive.(And they need some back up charges in case they lose the murder case.)
