Renee Bowman Met Adoption Standards

The Washington Post is reporting that DC officials said that Renee Bowman met all requirements to adopt. She had passed a background check (despite a misdemeanor conviction) and had completed a home study. The D.C. Child and Family Services Agency told the court that she was a suitable adoptive parent in 2001 and 2004.

But this isn't the first time that the agency has come under fire. In January they failed to investigate claims that Banita Jacks was abusing her children. Jacks later went on to kill her four daughters.

The little girls, who were Bowman's foster children before she adopted them, would be 7, 9, and 11. The surviving seven year old is the younger sister of the nine year old.

The sheriff's office is waiting for the bodies to thaw in order to perform autopsies. Bowman admits to starving one of the girls to death (Despite the fact that she received over $2400 a month as incentive to adopt them because they were special needs children. The money is supposed to help people adopt children who otherwise wouldn't find homes.), and claims the other one died after falling and hitting her head.
