Ljus Kron

I first saw this stroller, the Ljus Kron when looking for good photos of the Taga bicycle stroller. I was stunned by the wheels and the simplicity of the whole design. I couldn't figure out who manufactured it, and assumed that it was just another prototype stroller that would never get made. But another blogger was able to track down the stroller. And it is all set to go into production and will be available in March 2009. There will also be a tricycle and a bicycle if your child is past the stroller phase. And the stroller is manufactured in Switzerland and Italy, not by underpaid labor in China.

This is what Ljus writes about the Kron, which will be available in a three wheel or 4 wheel version, both of which will weigh less than 17 pounds:
Ergonomics – Posture
We put the newborn baby at the centre of our project, designing and building a rigid and comfortable seat in high quality technological fabrics (transpiring, thermal, anallergic and washable) in contrasting pastel colours.. The heat-welded fabrics are upholstered with open cell anti-shock cushions and natural, untreated wood panels. This structure ensures correct posture in the following ways: - Protection of respiration, which is not thoracic as in adults but abdominal. Moreover with this system there is no squeezing of the tummy as with classic “bag-type” pushchairs. - Protection of neck muscles, spine and head through absorption of bumps and jerks. - Allows greater control of the baby’s body temperature and favours the sleep cycle.
Innovation and technology are evident in the rear steering mechanism (rotation from +35°-35° with regard to the horizontal axis), in the pushchair’s book-style opening/closure and in the design and materials of the wheels.

Next year is looking like it is going to be good year for strollers.
