How come every time there is a cheerleading scandal it is in Texas? And of course it involves MySpace. A group of cheerleaders in McKinney known as the "Fab Five" were shown on the a MySpace page in a variety of bawdy situations. But these girls were terrors long before then. They talked back to teachers, and somehow managed to chase off five cheerleading coaches in just three years. They sent racy text messages to coach, Michaela Ward's husband and another coach."
How did the brats manage to get away with this behavior? The clique's leader was the principal's daughter.Amid charges that Linda Theret, the principal gave the girls preferential treatment, the school district launched a $40,000 investigation conducted by Jones in the fall. His 70-page report, which harshly criticized Theret and assistant principal Richard Brunner, helped prompt Theret's resignation on Dec. 21 (Brunner remains on paid leave as he fights to retain his job). But Jones's report takes plenty of others to task as well, from parents to police. "Kids will be kids, but adults have to be adults," he wrote. "Sadly, in this saga, I was struck by the reticence of many adults to accept the role of 'being the grown-up'."
The girl's were finally booted off the squad, and suspended from school for the MySpace photos. But Theret resigned her job after being paid $75,000 and a letter of recommendation. The girls are now in college. And their story is now a Lifetime Movie being shown tonight at 9pm.
Update: Watched first half hour of the movie and it's way overacted. It is coming across as pure kitsch.
"What is your malfunction?" Did they just borrow the script from Clueless? What kid talks like that. Is this script written by 45 year old men?
