Caylee Anthony Update 31 January
For a few moments on Friday evening, it seemed that a memorial service for slain toddler Caylee Marie Anthony was about to happen and that the little girl whose disappearance has captivated the country would finally be put to rest.
Not so.
An attorney representing Caylee's grandparents said a news release issued by First Baptist Orlando incorrectly stated that a public memorial service would be held Feb. 10 at the 5,000-seat church on John Young Parkway.
"Until her remains are released, we cannot set a definite date," attorney Brad Conway, representing grandparents George and Cindy Anthony, said Friday night.
The church sent an update reiterating that it would host a service but deleting the time and date. Church spokesman Scott Link told the Orlando Sentinel that the Anthonys sanctioned the service after attending the church at Christmastime.
The release quoted senior pastor David Uth as saying, "We believe that hosting the service will give us the opportunity to minister to a family in need and to a community that is hurting because of the loss of this precious child."
The Anthony saga continued Friday with an announcement from the Orange County Jail revealing that a wristband inscribed "Forever in our hearts Caylee Marie Anthony" was confiscated by jail workers. An attorney representing Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, brought it Wednesday with clothing she was going to wear to court.
The white rubber wristband with purple lettering was found Friday with blue pants and a gray blazer left for Anthony, 22, by attorney Jose Baez, jail spokesman Allen Moore said. A lawyer working with Baez on the case, Jose Garcia, said the firm would have no comment.
But a spokesman for Baez, who goes by the name Todd Black, said Cindy Anthony, not Baez, provided the clothing. Conway denied that.
Whatever the truth, "It's a personal item, and there is no jewelry allowed," Moore said. "And that bracelet would not be allowed in jail."
There is no indication that Casey Anthony, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, knew about the wristband, Moore said. Jail officials plan to inform Baez of their policy and consider the matter closed, he said.
Caylee was reported missing in July. A meter reader found her remains in December in a wooded area not far from the east Orange County home she shared with her mother and grandparents.
The judge overseeing the murder case is waiting to set a trial date. Circuit Judge Stan Strickland surveyed Baez, Anthony's lead defense attorney, and prosecutors Friday morning at the end of the hearing.
Baez said he is still expecting a "mountain" of investigative documents from prosecutors. He also wants to move the trial out of Orlando to ensure his client gets a fair jury. He plans to file the request soon but didn't say when.
Assistant State Attorney Linda Drane Burdick said the state anticipates being ready later this year.
"We feel our client is innocent," Baez said after the hearing. "She wants her day in court."
On Friday, Strickland required Anthony to appear in court for the hearing -- an order he issued Monday. In court Friday, Casey Anthony was dressed in the blue pants and gray blazer and wore her hair in a bun. She looked different from her last court appearance, when she wore a jail-issued blue jumpsuit. That's when the judge had unexpectedly ordered her to court.
Baez said people are focusing too much on Anthony's appearance. "It's irrelevant what she is wearing and what her nails look like. It has nothing to do with her guilt or innocence," he said.
Body-language expert Susan Constantine attended the hearing. She said Anthony appeared anxious at first -- rubbing her hands together -- but settled down as the hearing proceeded.
"I saw a lot of sadness and depression . . . on top of it -- fear," she said. "She is holding back fear."
Strickland denied the defense team's efforts to get the prosecutors removed from the case. Attorney Linda Kenney Baden wanted the judge to find out why someone from the State Attorney's Office filed a complaint about Baez with The Florida Bar, which later cleared Baez of wrongdoing. She said that interferes with Anthony's right to counsel. Strickland said he didn't think it had an impact and that it was a Florida Bar matter. Hours later, the judge denied the defense's request for records from Texas EquuSearch, a volunteer group that helped look for Caylee.
But Strickland did rule in favor of the defense when Baez requested access to the crime scene where Caylee's remains were found.
Surprise, Surprise...Jose Baez doesn't know the rules at the jail. Isn't this what lead to the his being to physically close accusations when she was first in jail for murder charges. And even though I believe a public memorial would be good for the community, the Anthonys aren't required to have one.

Despite efforts by her defense, Casey Anthony will be required to appear in court for future scheduled hearings.
An Orange County overruled Thursday the motion filed by Jose Baez, Anthony's attorney.
Anthony signed a waiver earlier this week attempting to waive her right to attend court hearings.
With no explaination, Judge Stan Strickland said Anthony will have to appear at all hearings barring scheduling conflicts.
A legal expert said it would be risky for Anthony to miss any hearings, and questioned why she would want to isolate herself from what's going on. Defense attorney Richard Hornsby said allowing Anthony to not show up to court hearings could give her grounds for a later appeal if she's convicted.
He said it's important to get her in court every time so she cannot claim later that she did not know what was going on.
Hornsby also questions why Baez continues to fight this battle. According to Hornsby, there's simply no good reason for Anthony not to go to court.
Anthony's next scheduled court appearance is Friday at 8:30 a.m. She is charged with the murder of her daughter, Caylee Anthony. The hearing will be livestreamed on WESH.com.
Strickland is expected to address several issues at Friday morning's hearing, including the status of the trial date and the defense's motion to inspect the crime scene.
Another motion was filed on Thursday, this time by attorney Mark NeJame. He is asking the court to toss out a request to have members of Texas EquuSearch appear as defense witnesses.

Casey Anthony's defense team is going after the prosecutors in her murder trial.
Jose Baez filed an emergency motion late Tuesday. In it, he claims the prosecution is violating Casey's 6th Amendment right to counsel of her choice.
Baez bases his motion on the fact that someone with the State Attorney's Office recently complained to the Florida Bar about him. Baez claims prosecutors are trying to taint him and are interfering with Casey's defense.
Baez says the state attorney's complaint was egregious and prejudicial. He wants to put prosecutors on the stand to explain themselves. A legal analyst told Orlando station WFTV that's not likely to happen.
Because the complaint was filed late in the day, there has been no comment from prosecutors or the judge who received the motion.
Baez has denied allegations that he has entertainment deals based on outcome of Casey's trial. Such agreements are prohibited.

It appears that something shady is going on, even if nobody can put their finger on exactly what it is. All these lawyers and experts aren't working for free so where is the money coming from.

Brad Conway ,attorney for George and Cindy Anthony said Tuesday a jailhouse family reunion is being negotiated that would include a private service for Caylee Anthony.
Casey Anthony is facing first-degree murder charges for the murder of Caylee, which prohibits her from leaving the jail for any type of service for Caylee.
Thomas Luka, attorney for Casey's brother Lee Anthony said that his client hopes there would be "some sort of reunification with the family...Casey included, so they can grieve and say goodbye together."
Conway is hopeful they will have an answer from the jail by the end of week.
A representative for the jail, Allen Moore said, "No such request has been received by Orange County Corrections. It is highly unlikely such a request would be granted."
In the meantime, the Anthony family is planning to hold a large memorial service for Caylee that the public would be able to attend. Conway plans to make further announcements regarding a public service on Wednesday.
It's very funny that the lawyers always announce what they are planning to do before they ever do it. Why not file the paperwork first? And they must be smoking the crackpipe if they think the jail and the court are going to agree to this. Casey is charged with murdering her daughter, now she wants to grieve. Isn't it usually the court's position that the accused can grieve when and if they are acquitted. And if she didn't murder her daughter ( I want to laugh just typing the words.) this is her part of her punishment for not reporting her daughter missing.

A Jacksonville company has released the "Inspirational Caylee Doll," which it says was designed to honor Caylee Marie Anthony.The doll sings "You Are My Sunshine," a song Caylee sang in one of the videos that have played repeatedly on the media since her disappearance last summer.
Caylee was found dead in December not far from the east Orange County home that she and her mother, Casey Anthony, often stayed. Casey Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in connection with Caylee's death.
Showbiz Promotions said in a news release that the doll was not made in the likeness of Caylee, but says she was the inspiration. The family, according to the company Web site, is not involved."While we understand this is a very tender issue," the company said in a news release. "We knew we had to do something to raise awareness of such a terrible and recurring crime, while honoring and respecting a beautiful life."The 18-inch doll is being sold on CayleeDoll.com for $29.95. The doll is wearing jeans and a T-shirt with the logo "Caylee Sunshine." The song sings when the doll’s belly button is pushed.
Showbiz Promotions is sleazy. Caylee's family should put a stop to it, and if that doesn't work whomever owns the copyright to "You Are My Sunshine" should. You know the company isn't paying licensing fees to anyone involved. You knew sooner or later someone was going to try to make a buck off of the poor girl, but I thought that it would be someone actually involved with the case.

The list of creeps being investigated for trying to extort $20million from John Travolta includes the cream of Bahamian politics. Obie Wilchcombe, a member of Parliament and the Former Minister of Tourism (The Bahamas' main industry) is under investigation. And Former Senator Pleasant Bridgewater has already been charged. Caylee Anthony Update 26 January
Casey Anthony's attorney has filed a motion seeking more information about his client's ex-boyfriend.
The motion comes after Ricardo Morales posted a picture on MySpace, which showed a man and woman with the title "win her over with chloroform."
Jose Baez wants prosecutors' information about Morales, who was questioned by detectives at least twice.
Morales told detectives he posted the picture on his MySpace page around the beginning of 2008. That was before someone searched for "chloroform" on Anthony's home computer.
Trace amounts of the chemical were found in Casey Anthony's car.
The father of Casey Anthony remains in the hospital under psychiatric evaluation for a third day Sunday after a suicide scare.
George Anthony is being held for observation under the Baker Act, which allows him to be checked out for 72 hours. That could keep him at Halifax Medical Center through sometime Monday.
Anthony was reported missing Thursday evening, and found early Friday morning in a motel room in Daytona Beach.
Police said Anthony had sent text messages to family members saying he did not want to live, and that he wanted to be with his murdered 2-year-old granddaughter, Caylee.
George Anthony was found with alcohol in the motel room. He had taken several sleeping pills.
An unfinished suicide letter Anthony wrote was also found in his vehicle.
Daytona Beach police Chief Mike Chitwood talked Anthony into going into Halifax Medical Center.
Chitwood said George Anthony told him he just wanted to get away for a while.
This is just so sad. George Anthony seems like a nice enough guy. This all seems like a drunken mistake. But at least for 72 hours George will get away from his horrible everyday life. We have to remember that this a man whose whole world has crumbled in the past few months. An "win her over with chloroform" picture just shows the type of guys that Casey surrounded herself with. Casey may have killed her precious daughter to have more time to party with this type of man.

George Anthony Suicide Attempt
The grandfather of slain Florida toddler Caylee Anthony was in stable condition Friday after he was taken to a hospital over concerns that he might be suicidal.
A spokeswoman for the Daytona Beach hospital said George Anthony would be admitted to a hospital room after being observed. Anthony was found early Friday at a Daytona Beach hotel after he was reported missing for several hours.
Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood told reporters that Anthony sent text messages to family members indicating he "wanted to end his life."
Police also found a "five to six page suicide letter," he had written, a police spokesman told NBC News. Anthony had not tried to harm himself, the spokesman said.
Anthony's daughter, Casey Anthony, has been charged with killing Caylee. The child was not reported missing for nearly a month after she vanished.
I feel bad for George: his beloved granddaughter is dead, his daughter is accused of murder, the press is in his face all the time, and being married to Cindy can't be easy under the best of circumstances. But at least they didn't wait a month to report him missing.

Three new motions will be heard at an end of the month hearing.
The motions are from both sides -- Anthony's attorney Jose Baez and the State Attorney's Office.
The most interesting concerns a request by Baez to obtain records from EquuSearch, including lists of volunteers and any communications the group had with investigators.
The Texas-based group spent days in Central Florida looking for Caylee's remains.
Baez also filed a motion to try and inspect the scene where Caylee's remains were found.
The hearing is scheduled in an Orange County court for Jan. 30 at 8:30 a.m.
Documents Reveal More About Casey
Hundreds of pages of new documents were released Wednesday in the Casey Anthony case.
Among the documents were interviews with friends of the Orange County mother who has been charged with murdering her daughter, Caylee. The documents also include details of exactly what deputies were looking for from the Anthony family home after Caylee's remains were found.
Included in the interviews are coworkers of Cindy Anthony at Gentiva Health Services around the time Caylee went missing.
The report gives us an upclose look at the troubled relationship between Casey and her parents.
One interview reveals that Cindy was complaining about Casey and not being able to see her granddaughter. According to the person interviewed, Cindy talked about excuses she was getting from Casey about why she couldn't see the toddler.
Also, investigators talked with one of Casey's old boyfriends. Ricardo Morales said that when he dated Casey, Caylee was almost always with her.
He also talked about Casey's drug use, saying she occasionally smoked marijuana.
We're also learning about what was taken from the Anthony family home during the most recent search following the discovery of Caylee's remains.
Investigators were looking for several items -- including garbage bags, any types of adhesives -- including duct tape.
Also on the list of items being sought were diapers, Winnie The Pooh clothes and arts and crafts materials.
Casey remains locked up in the Orange County Jail without bond.
There has been some talke that Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's lawyer, might soon file a motion to try and move the case out of Central Florida, but so far no motions have been filed.
If I were withholding my children and my mother and grandmother wanted to see them they wouldn't take no for an answer. The phrase "bring them home or your stuff will be on the lawn" would have been used. And my kids are nine and sixteen, and it's my house. I know for a fact that they wouldn't of let me get away with that nonsense.
And Jose Baez can find the time to ask for a list of EquuSearch volunteers, but not the time to file a change a venue. He keeps saying that he is going to file one but the documents don't seem to make it to the court house. A change of venue should be at the top of his list of "Things To Do To Save Casey's Lying Butt." And if he doesn't have a to do list he needs to make one.

A heart-shaped sticker was put on the duct tape that covered Caylee Marie Anthony's mouth, an Orange County investigator wrote in search warrant affidavit.
That detail is one of several included in hundreds of pages of legal documents released today by the State Attorney's Office in its case against Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony.
The reports detail more about what investigators found when Caylee's remains were recovered Dec. 11:
- The remains appeared to have originally been within a black plastic bag and within a cloth laundry hamper bag.
- There was a piece of silver duct tape over the mouth area of Caylee's skull.
- Inside the bag, investigators found a small shirt, small pair of white shorts and small cloth-type letters that appear to be iron-ons, and a Winnie the Pooh blanket.
While the duct tape was being processed at the FBI lab in Quantico, Va., investigators noticed residue in the "perfect shape of a heart." The residue "appeared to be consistent with the adhesive side of a heart shaped sticker," sheriff's Detective Yuri Melich stated in one of the documents.
He noted that investigators who scoured the wooded area where Caylee's remains were found located a small heart-shaped sticker similar in size to the residue on the tape.
"It appears that the sticker was put on the duct tape intentionally," he stated.
Dozens of pages of reports from crime-scene technicians were released, as well as transcripts from 911 calls made by the meter reader who found Caylee's remains.
In the wake of the release, Casey Anthony's defense attorney held a brief news conference late this afternoon but would not comment on the documents.
"I'm going to try this case in the courtroom, not on the courthouse steps," Jose Baez said.
The Kissimmee lawyer held the conference in Orange County to address rumors about himself and the criminal case against his client.
Baez said he has no book deals, no entertainment deals or any contingency fees with anyone. Any implication that he does is "simply a false rumor," he said.
"I have nothing to hide," Baez said.
He spoke briefly about his plans to request a change of venue for Anthony's trial, but wouldn't say where they would want go. Baez said the matter will be heard very shortly.
When asked about a rumored investigation by The Florida Bar against him, Baez said he's had numerous complaints filed against him by anonymous people.
"They have absolutely nothing to do with any entertainment deals or book deals," he said.
Meanwhile, in another search warrant for Casey's home on Hopespring Drive, where she lived with her parents and Caylee, investigators asked to collect:
-- Arts and crafts materials, stickers and scrap book material
-- Casey Anthony's shoes
-- Small plastic toy horses similar to one found at the crime scene
The investigator also asked for the authority to observe and note any prescriptions on the property.
Why would anyone other than someone who cared for a child bother to put a sticker on top of the duct tape? And if Jose Baez intends to try this case in the courtroom, why does he keep calling press conferences?

Someone Actually Threatened To Sell Photos of A Dying Jett Travolta
A local politician from Grand Bahama and a man believed to an ambulance driver are being questioned about their involvement in a plot to sell photos of John Travolta's son, Jett as he lay dying in the back of an ambulance on his way to hospital. The pair contacted the Travolta and their lawyers soon after they returned to the United States. The lawyers met with the men who were asking for millions, and then alerted police.
What were these men thinking? I doubt that even the sleaziest American tabloid would publish such photos. There must be a special place in hell for anyone who would even try something so cruel. And what made them think they could get away with it. The Bahamas are dependant on tourist dollars. Of course police are going to punish something that would so publicly offend most tourists.
A police source said: 'The investigation is at an early stage. Mr Travolta is co-operating fully.'
After returning to Florida, they issued a statement which read: 'Regrettably in a time of such terrible grief there are often a few individuals who attempt to make false claims in hopes of making millions of dollars. We will never let that happen.'
Their statement continued that they have 'the utmost confidence in the Bahamian police and government' as it looks into the reported extortion attempt.
The Travoltas, who are still in seclusion, hoped to keep the plot a secret but it was leaked by a local newspaper.

Caylee Anthony Update 21 January
The Florida Bar told WESH 2 Tuesday that they have an "active case" working against Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez.
Baez said he knows about the investigation and said it's been filed by people with an ax to grind.
Baez has signed on world class forensic experts from as far away as Canada, and he will not answer how he's paying for it, he told WESH 2 he has not done anything illegal in his handling of the case against Casey Anthony.
He said he has done nothing but conduct himself in a most professional manner. He said he has done nothing unethical.
This comes as experts continue to question how he's getting the money to pay for his legal dream team.
"How is he affording to represent her and are the decisions being made in her best interest and with her permission?" attorney Richard Hornsby said.
Baez has consistently refused to answer where the money is coming from.
"First of all I think it's an inappropriate question. It isn't a concern of anyone who's paying for all of this," he said.
If Baez has made improper deals, Hornsby said that could provide Anthony grounds for an appeal.
"It would be so easy for Miss Anthony to claim what is called ineffective assistance of counsel," Hornsby said.
Baez confirms he is the subject of an ongoing Bar investigation. He said it was filed by people with an axe to grind and has nothing to do with allegations of unethical financial dealings.
"It's all a crock," he said.
Baez declined an on-camera interview, but added that he has nothing to hide.
But this is what Randy Means, the spokesman for the State's Attorney Office had to say:
"My Friday conversation with Mary from Channel 9 was very simple. I told her that we also have heard from media employees that questions [have] arisen as to Defendant Anthony's counsel. I wouldn't specify what question. I informed the reporter that it is the court's responsibility to insure a fair trial for the accused and if any improprieties actually took place by either side, defense or state, both the Florida Bar and the Courts are venues that would hear the complaints. If her story stated anything other than that, it was a creation of a futile mind and questionable ethics."
I think that Jose Baez is shady, but at least he's using the money on his client. And he will be able to make money after the trial. You know that he is probably writing the book now even if he doesn't have a book deal. Because he will have a deal within a week of the end of the trial.And here is the rest of it.
