Problem With Bugaboo Takata

The Bugaboo Takata hasn't been released in the United States yet, but there have already been troubling problems reported in Europe. It seems that Takata (And Bugaboo is placing the blame squarely on Takata. They keep calling it the "Bugaboo car seat developed by Takata.) didn't correctly attach all of the handles to the car seat shells. So when the car seat is being carried by the handle they can detach. Also the car seat doesn't always attach properly to the stroller adapters. These are problems you would expect from a cheap car seat. Bugaboo is saying that they have had only three reported cases of the problem though, so it may just be a quality control problem.

Bugaboo has directions on how to check for the manufacturing defect on their European websites. If you car seat is affected stop using the car seat and return it to where you purchased it.

Bugaboo has been having a lot of problems with their products lately. There was a recall for the Bee and reported problems with the the Cameleon's handles.

Bugaboo Bee Recall

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Bugaboo issued a recall for over 22,000 Bugaboo Bees. The brakes on the stroller are failing and the stroller can roll down an incline. The CPSC has received around 121 complaints about the brake failure. Bugaboo is sending a repair kit for strollers manufactured between April 2007 and April 2009. If you registered your stroller you will automatically be sent the repair kit. If you didn't you can contact Bugaboo and request the kit. This is the link to bracket request form. Or call Bugaboo at (800) 460-2922.

Marc Jacobs For Bugaboo

Marc Jacobs and Bugaboo have teamed up to produce a limited edition Bugaboo Cameleon. The design is all black and comes in the signature Little Marc fabric. If you manage to get your hands on one it will cost your $1500.

While the all black frame is wonderful, the fabric is nothing special, not worth the mark up. I don't think Bugaboo customers are looking for designer collaborations. Bugaboo customers want a double stroller. Where is the car seat? And when will they actually give the world the double stroller they have been clamouring for? I would love to see the black frame on a Bee though.

Aluminum Rims For Your Bugaboo

I come from California lowrider culture (having spent way too many weekend in my youth at car shows), so I can appreciate aluminum rims more than most. I look at the little tease of a picture and my womb aches. Airborne Mini Tuning not only is offering the rims, but aluminum cup holders, drop axles and wheel bullets, and interior kits. Good Dutch lines with a little something extra, what more can you ask from. This is the way to go if your Bugaboo is starting to look a little old but you don't want to invest in a whole new stroller.

Airborne Mini is the second product line from the company that brought you the Roddler, Kid Kustoms.

I wonder if they have kits for the Bugaboo strollers other than the Cameleon. They aren't listing pricing and you can't order online yet, so you will have to contact them for ordering information.

Update: The kind folks from Airborne Mini have provided more information.

We currently have the premium wheels available. Sets begin at $400 with
anodizing included but custom colors outside the 12 we offer are, patterns
and etching are also available. We have the mainstream line that should
become available very very shortly that will be more comparable to the price
of a standard set of replacement wheels.

Since they are offering custom sets you probably could ask very nicely for them to do a set a wheels for other strollers. It's worth a try.

Are There Problems With The Bugaboo Cameleon Handle

Bugaboo customer service has been getting reports of screws coming out of the handlebar of its extremely popular Cameleon. The problem has been reported on strollers manufactured between August 2007 and May 2008. Bugaboo is offering replacement screws to anyone with those models. The form can be found here. I suggest getting the screws, you wouldn't want them to come undone while out walking and the stroller just to roll away.

But you can probably could just take the hood to a local tshirt embroidery shop and have them do the same thing on in type of canopy. But what do you do when you want to sell the Bugaboo on Ebay or Craigslist? Buy a replacement canopy here and list away.

Bugaboo Bee

This is my favorite baby stroller out there now. I think that it is lovely. There is a one piece fold, the seat reverses, it weighs just 17lbs, and I love the design. It looks different. And then there is that huge canopy. Because despite our dark skin, we sunburn quicker than an albino in the desert. Available everywhere (except my little hick town), or here, here, and here. $529

Bugaboo Baby Nest

I love the look of the Bugaboo Bee with the baby nest. I just wonder if they would look so nice in actual usage. I have seen pictures of both looking rather limp, and they are not as pretty. The Bee is $529 and the Nest is $99.95.
