Caylee Anthony Update 26 November

Casey Anthony, mother of missing Florida 3-year-old Caylee Anthony, waived her right to appear before Orange County Circuit Judge Stan Strickland during a gag order hearing on Tuesday.

The State Attorney's Office had filed the motion concerning comments made by Anthony's attorney Jose Baez on cable news programs, on the grounds that his appearances had the potential to prevent a fair trial. Prosecutors want attorneys, witnesses and law enforcement officers to restrict public comments. The gag order would not include members of the Anthony family.

Both attorneys for the prosecution and defense have also accused each other of leaking sensitive information about the investigation into the Caylee's disappearance.

Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton indicated that statements made by Baez about the case and the impending murder trial of his client, "creates an atmostphere where potential jurors are invited to make a decision" on the guilt or innocence of Casey Anthony.

"The State Attorney's Office has been completely closed-mouth on this case with one exception," said Ashton, referring to a news conference held by prosecutors on the day that Casey was formally charged with the murder of her daughter.

Cindy Anthony is asking investigators to look into a recent sighting of her missing granddaughter Caylee.

Cindy Anthony spoke at a press conference Tuesday. She said that she doesn't know if a photo taken of a girl resembling 3-year-old Caylee Anthony is her granddaughter, but wants it investigated.

A detective hired by the family who appeared at the news conference said the photo was taken at a mall in November but that investigators aren't willing to study the statement of the woman who took it.

Orange County Sheriff's Office officials were not immediately available for comment.

Caylee Anthony was last seen June 16. She was reported missing a month later.

Why wouldn't the gag order apply to the Anthony family? Aren't they going to testify in the case? You would think they would be some of the main witnesses. It was Cindy Anthony who reported Caylee missing, and it is believed that George was the last person besides Casey to see her. So they would be witnesses and need to keep their mouths shut.
