Abraham Biggs committed suicide online over at Justin.tv while people watched and egged him on. Viewers watched as Biggs overdosed on pills and continued to watch for hours as he died before anyone thought to contact the police.
Justin.tv CEO released a pathetic statement:
As for the broadcaster incident last night, we don’t comment on individual videos, however, our policy prohibits inappropriate content on Justin.tv. We rely on the community to flag videos that they feel are objectionable. Once a video is flagged, it is reviewed and quickly removed from the system if it violates our Terms of Use.
While it is disturbing that Biggs committed suicide online, I find it ten times more disturbing that no one did anything to help him until it was too late. What does it say about the viewers that they could encourage someone to take their life and then sit there for hours as a person slowly died. Am I the only person who still believes that you have a responsibility to help a stranger if you can.
