Bhia Hadid Update

The Cook County State's Attorney has charged Nour S. Hadid, 26, with the first degree murder of her niece, 2-year-old Bhia Hadid. State's attorney spokewoman Tandra Simonton said that Nour was scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday morning. Nour was denied bond Tuesday afternoon.

Both Nour and Bhia resided at 9016 W. 140th St. 2D in Orland Park, where Orland Park Police were called to assist fire and medical personnel from the Orland Fire Protection District on Sunday, April 5, at 5:43 p.m.

Orland Park Police Chief Tim McCarthy, who is also head of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force which assisted in the investigation, said that the fire district responded to a call that a child had reportedly fallen and was unresponsive.

"Upon arrival, the firefighters and paramedics found the unresponsive 2-year-old female in a bedroom," he said. "They discovered severe bruising over much of the child's body and brought this to the attention of the police officers."

Bhia was then transported to Palos Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 6:27 p.m.

"Doctors at Palos also noticed the severe bruising," McCarthy said.

On Monday, April 6, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide from blunt force trauma due to child abuse.

Three other minor children at the residence were transported by the Orland Park Police and OFPD to Palos Community Hospital for examination, and then on Monday to the Child Advocacy Center for examination.

"There were no signs of child abuse [on the other three children]," McCarthy said.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services currently have the three children in protective custody.

According to family services spokesman Jimmie Whitelow, the department has had no prior contact with the family.

McCarthy said Monday afternoon that investigators with the task force obtained a videotaped confession from Nour.

"She outlined in detail how the child was abused and how the bruising occurred that led to the child's death," he said.

Nour remains in custody.

She admits to killing Bhia, but her family is more concerned that she appeared without her head covered. That is not what Islam stands for.
