Sandra Cantu Update 22 April

A San Joaquin County Superior Court judge has issued a gag order in the case against murder suspect Melissa Huckaby.

The order was issued shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday — just after a San Joaquin County attorney told a San Francisco newspaper that his office is no longer seeking to remove and the body of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu from a Tracy mausoleum as part of its investigation.

San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge Linda Loftus directed "parties and counsel" not to "release information or opinions concerning this case or any issue likely involved in this case."

Public Defender Peter Fox told the San Francisco Chronicle that the request to perform a second autopsy on Sandra would be withdrawn because his office learned that there were preserved samples that could be examined instead.
When reached by phone, Fox declined to comment further, citing the gag order.

Huckaby, who has been charged with raping, kidnapping and killing Sandra, her daughter's playmate and neighbor, is due back in court Friday for further arraignment.

On Thursday, on the same day as Sandra's public memorial service in Tracy, the public defender's office asked a San Joaquin County Superior Court judge to consider a motion to have the girl's body examined by an independently hired pathologist. The judge refused to hear the request and said it would have to addressed during Friday's court proceedings.

Sandra, a Jacobson Elementary School second-grader, was last seen near her home in Tracy's Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park on March 27. Her body was found in a suitcase April 6 in a dairy farm irrigation pond near the mobile home park.

Was the gag order issued to hide the fact that maybe the Tracy police dropped the ball? They should of followed up on the case of the drugged 7 year old. The facts in that case started coming out and now the judge issues a gag order, the timing seems suspicious.
