Teen Father Shakes Baby To Death

And has the dumbest excuse ever.

A baby surviving on life support died Saturday, three months after his father was arrested for shaking him after a bath.

On Saturday, an aggravated battery charge against 19-year-old Steven Taylor, father of young Cory Taylor-Becvar, was upgraded to an open count of murder, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Taylor, sheriff's investigators said, was bathing 2-month-old Cory on Jan. 22 when he left to pause a video game. When he came back, he said Cory's face was under water.

At first, Taylor didn't believe Cory was injured. But later, in his crib, Cory stopped breathing, Taylor told deputies.
He said he started CPR and shook Cory in an effort to revive him. But doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola said Cory's injuries - a bleeding brain, a fractured skull, three fractured ribs and a subdural hematoma - were "not consistent with mild shaking as if to elicit a response," according to Taylor's arrest report.

The injuries were, however, signs of the often-fatal Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Contributing to the arrest were witness accounts that Taylor took Cory to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center "only after constant insistence by the neighbors," investigators said. He did not, or could not, immediately call 911.

A family member declined comment on the case Saturday night.

He needs to be charged for murder even if he is telling the truth. What kind of idiot leaves a newborn in a bathtub to turn off a video game.
