Back on July 2nd, most of us never heard of Casey or Caylee Anthony. That's the evening Lake County woman Wanda Wery insists she saw the then missing two-year- old at the Orlando International Airport.
Wery said she was waiting at an AirTran gate with her husband and son with their Yorkshire Terrier dog, when a little girl she believes was Caylee Anthony came up to them to play with the dog. The Anthony's have always said Caylee loved her dogs, fueling Wery's belief.
"When she came up to me, she said her name,” Wery said. “I asked her three times. She said 'Caylee Me-Antony' all in one word. I didn't expect that. Then the woman she was with spoke up and said, 'She's trying to tell you her name is Caylee Marie Anthony."
Wery said she boarded the flight to Atlanta, and so did the girl and woman. She added the woman told her Caylee was from here, but that she lived in New York or New Jersey.
By the time Wery returned from her vacation, the Anthony's had already reported Caylee missing. That happened on July 15th, and on July 16th police arrested Casey and the Anthony's began their still ongoing media blitz.
Wery said when she saw Caylee's picture on TV., she immediately called the Sheriff's Office. She filed an official report, they interviewed her and her son, and even made a sketch of the woman she said was with Caylee. In the end, though, the Sheriff's Office told her and us they and the FBI thoroughly investigated that tip and it was completely unfounded.
But still Wery insists that despite the fact that the Orange County Sheriff’s office believes that Caylee is dead and the state is building a case of murder against the mother, she said that she is "Absolutely certain," that the little girl she saw was Caylee Anthony, very much alive.
If you had just kidnapped a child would you clarify her name for a complete stranger. I think not. And not just her first name, but her whole name. And you must remember that police went through the video tape from the airport and saw no proof that Caylee was ever there.
