Emma Roberts Applying To Colleges

Child stars can be divided into two groups: those who have semi-normal lives offscreen, and those who think there is no world outside of Hollywood (Jodi Sweetin falls into this group). The Hollywood group hangs around on the dlist for as long as possible or until they are broke. The semi-normal group heads off to college to prepare for life after the fame. Emma Roberts is planning on being a part of this group.

With deadline time on college applications approaching, actress Emma Roberts has honed in on two schools in New York.

"I really loved Sarah Lawrence and NYU," the onetime star of Nickelodeon's Unfabulous, now 17, told PEOPLE at a Hotel for Dogs event held at New York's FAO Schwarz Friday.

"When I got to Sarah Lawrence or NYU," she says of her campus visits, "I could really see myself walking around here making friends."

Roberts – whose dad is actor Eric Roberts and whose aunt is Julia Roberts also explained what a busy time this has been for her and her friends.

"Nobody has left the house for the past few weeks, because everyone's just trying to get their college applications done," she said.

With her interests in photography, writing and literature, there's one thing Roberts isn't keen on studying at school: acting.

"Definitely not," she said with a laugh, despite her bloodline and her own accomplishments – including two movies, The Winning Season and Lymelife, due to be shown at Sundance in January.

"I'd be too nervous," Roberts said about any potential acting class. "Because I'd already worked, I'd feel like everyone would be like judging me. I would be too embarrassed to do a play."
