Breastfeeding and Jaundice
When did doctors starting insisting that if a baby has jaundice that you have to bottle feed. I think that this would lead to nipple confusion and mothers giving up on nursing.Fifteen years ago when my oldest had jaundice I was told just to breastfeed as often as possible. He got over the jaundice quickly. I have found several articles that say bottle feeding isn't necessary with jaundice. They are here, here, and here. Because not everyone believes in formula. I know that it exists but it's not something I would want in any child of mine. But if you feel differently this may be your solution to nipple confusion. The Medela SoftFeeder or the Supplemental Nursing System, or if you're patient an eyedropper all work if you don't want to use a traditional bottle.
