Easter Craft Project For The Non-Crafty

I have been meaning to make glittered Easter eggs for the longest time, and I finally got around to it. The results were so pretty. I have to keep my craft projects simple because I don't have a crafty bone in my body, but this was simple enough for a 4year old. (Probably the reason mine turned out well.)

I used plastic eggs from Michael's, but this is a project you could do with blown out eggs or even your boiled eggs. I also used the Martha Stewart glitter from Michael's in Turquoise and Tourmaline for a more grown up take on the traditional Spring colors of pink and blue.

The eggs are currently being displayed in a pressed glass candy bowl on  mirrored table. The reflections and the sparkle are so lovely.

Felt Easter Basket

I found the most adorable felt Easter baskets at Target. I love the simple graphic faces. I have no idea what I am going to do with them, but I just had to have them. There were a ton of other designs available, and they were just $1.99 each.

Easter 2009

Don't be afraid to dye brown eggs. They aren't any harder to dye than other eggs and turn out lovely jewel turns. Mine look so nice with the quail eggs that I purchased on Ebay.

And for anybody who thinks that Pottery Barn Easter baskets cost too much, they really are a quality product. Ours are about 4 or 5 years old and are holding up extremely well, and they look like they may hold up another 4 or 5. So in the long run they are more than worth the cost because you pay.

Easter Egg Centerpiece

I was going to make glittered eggs to decorate with for Easter, but then my youngest son got sick and I couldn't make it to Michael's to buy the glitter. So I think I will do something along these lines. But in my favorite brass dish. Will post pictures of the centerpiece later.

Chocolate Filled Hens' Eggs

Here is the chocolate easter egg post again.

I saw on NotCot that Dean and Deluca is selling 6 chocolate filled egg shells for $55. Do not waste your money, filling egg shells is a relatively simple project. I have no artistic ability and I manage to do it every year. The directions are still on Martha Stewart. We get our egg cartons from Omlet, they hold just four eggs, but you can just as easily use half dozen or dozen cartons from the grocery. We have chickens and were going to give the eggs to friends and neighbors as gifts. But our chickens have learned that the don't have to lay eggs to be fed.

Beatrix Potter Plates

These Tale of Peter Rabbit Plates from Pottery Barn Kids would be a cute way to decorate for Easter (or any time). The four porcelain plates each feature a different illustration from the classic. $49 for 4.

Glittered Eggs

Every time I walk into Michael's I have a look at the Martha Stewart glitter. The pastel sparkle in such a charming way that just screams buy me. I never buy the glitter because I could never figure out what to do with it. But then I thought glitter eggs, and in this month's issue of her magazine there they were.

Eggs can be found all over Ebay already blown out.

Favorite Posts of 2008- Buying Chickens

If you want to buy baby chick or ducklings, don't do it this week. Their price, and that of rabbits, go up the week before Easter. And they don't make good gifts, baby chicks die really easily, and they poop so much. The dying part is the worst. You've spent your time explaining to a child that Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to explain why the baby duck can't do it. Wait to get the fuzzy baby bird until they have forgotten about the Resurrection.

Back To School

My boys are going back to school after Easter vacation today. We didn't do anything. I had plans but got sick after taking my youngest to Children's Hospital. But now it's time for them to go back to school, and I don't want them to go. They may be extremely noisy, but the chaos is so much better than the rush getting to and from school and activities. Well at least summer vacation will start soon.

Easter

Easter was lovely. Everything I cooked turned out perfect. The chicken was golden, except for the fact that I cooked it upside down. I only forgot the location of one of the hidden eggs, but we finally found it. I just wish I was more creative. Easter is so much better than Christmas, and I can't wait until next year.

Happy Easter everyone. The photos are of my youngest son coloring eggs, and my grandmother with the eggs from our chickens. She's taking some to church to give as Easter gifts.

Chocolate Eggs

I realized something today that I forgot. I hate that chocolate egg project. It isn't that it's a hard project. I hate everything about chocolate. I don't like the way it tastes. And the way it smells upsets my stomach. There has to be a way to the project with jellybeans. Maybe if I covered the eggs with paper mache like a pinata.

Busy Planning Easter Dinner

I have been having problems deciding what to cook for Easter dinner. Usually I just cook ham in Coca Cola. But we always end up throwing out so much food after the holidays, it just seems wasteful. I thought about lamb, but only my grandmother and I eat lamb. So I've been searching around the internet for recipes of things I might like. I have decided on pepper crusted pork tenderloin with blackberry reduction, roast chicken, pear and cucumber salad, snow peas with lemon herb butter, and strawberry trifle. Those who won't eat the tenderloin can eat the simple chicken. I'm trying to cook things with not a lot of ingredients, and that won't take too much time. I always end up making so many trips to the grocery before the holidays, and I have to be in church. This is Jesus' big day, and I wouldn't miss church Easter to save my life. I'll post pictures Monday.

Hot Wheels Easter Eggs

Hot Wheels collectors head to Target. They have large plastic eggs filled with cars in a six pack. I think Hot Wheels is trying to do a Hallmark and take over all the holidays. What's next a driedel filled with a car?

Every Day Is Easter

My chickens are finally laying eggs on regular basis. We went from one egg in two years, to five eggs in three days. They are laying in a patio chair and an empty flower pot. And one of the eggs is such a pretty ochre color. They will make pretty Easter gifts.
