Easter Craft Project For The Non-Crafty

I have been meaning to make glittered Easter eggs for the longest time, and I finally got around to it. The results were so pretty. I have to keep my craft projects simple because I don't have a crafty bone in my body, but this was simple enough for a 4year old. (Probably the reason mine turned out well.)

I used plastic eggs from Michael's, but this is a project you could do with blown out eggs or even your boiled eggs. I also used the Martha Stewart glitter from Michael's in Turquoise and Tourmaline for a more grown up take on the traditional Spring colors of pink and blue.

The eggs are currently being displayed in a pressed glass candy bowl on  mirrored table. The reflections and the sparkle are so lovely.

Here are Martha Stewart's original directions.

Super Cool Coloring Pages

Sorry about the lack of posts. I have been busy hanging out with my boys. I'm going to miss them when they go back to school, they are growing up so fast. In a couple of years my oldest will be going off the college.

I know there are other parents like me, looking for things for their kids to do to fight off boredom. Ruthless & Toothless has a small collection of printable (and free) coloring pages that are so different than the usual coloring pages you see. Link

Chocolate Filled Hens' Eggs

Here is the chocolate easter egg post again.

I saw on NotCot that Dean and Deluca is selling 6 chocolate filled egg shells for $55. Do not waste your money, filling egg shells is a relatively simple project. I have no artistic ability and I manage to do it every year. The directions are still on Martha Stewart. We get our egg cartons from Omlet, they hold just four eggs, but you can just as easily use half dozen or dozen cartons from the grocery. We have chickens and were going to give the eggs to friends and neighbors as gifts. But our chickens have learned that the don't have to lay eggs to be fed.

Glittered Eggs

Every time I walk into Michael's I have a look at the Martha Stewart glitter. The pastel sparkle in such a charming way that just screams buy me. I never buy the glitter because I could never figure out what to do with it. But then I thought glitter eggs, and in this month's issue of her magazine there they were.

Eggs can be found all over Ebay already blown out.

Eye Rolling...

...Usually Means Shut Up.

That's what the poster I made for my boyfriend says. He is the sweetest, most attentive boyfriend ever(One of my Valentine's Day gifts was my own bathroom in his house. Not a drawer, but a whole room.) until he starts talking about cars. Then he becomes completely unable to read body language. He once talked for over a half an hour about car parts without bothering to introduce me. I'm a hot rod widow.

And yes he is going to hang it. He says he's giving it a place of honour in his art room because I made it for him.

To make the poster I just took a 8x11 paper I printed at home to Kinkos and had it enlarged. A three feet wide poster is just $4.50. I found the directions here.

My Son's Birthday Party Invites

Here is the photo of my son's birthday party invitation. I printed the information on frosted sticker paper and applied it to mini cereal boxes. I then included a carton of Horizon Organic milk in a paper bag with a cardstock "M". The teacher handed the bags out after school to each kid in the class.
The project was extremely simple. Of course I only had to do a dozen, and my boyfriend helped.

Sneak Peak At The Invitations To The Extravaganza

Here is a sneak peak of my youngest son's birthday party invitation. You will never guess what is inside. I created the M by printing the letter on paper in a font size of 350, cutting it out, tracing it on to cardstock, and then cutting it out again. It is relatively simple (I'm not crafty).

Another Handmade Christmas Card

I received another handmade Christmas card. This one has a pop up reindeer. I will have to start planning next years card soon to match the creativity of the cards I received this year. I feel rather untalented.

Milk Carton Gingerbread House

My son's school has a long standing tradition of making gingerbread houses with the kids. Well, they actually use graham crackers instead of gingerbread, but it allows the kids more freedom to be creative. All you need is a plate, a small empty milk carton, graham crackers, icing (a recipe can be found here, but one of the special ed classes used cake icing instead), and some candy to decorate with. It is a simple, simple project.

The candy is what excites the kids the most. Imagine walking into a room with three cafeteria tables filled with candy. They fill up their trays with candy and off they go. But whatever candy is left on the tray stays in the cafeteria. What teacher wants to deal with little children hyped up on sugar. And the school has a no candy policy. And the unopened candy is donated to the local shelter.

The children are allowed to build whatever they want around their milk carton. A small milk carton is house shaped if you look at it. What you end up with is rarely pretty, and a lot of the time the results seem to defy gravity. But the kids love it.

If you are looking for a project to keep the kids busy this week I highly recommend this one.

The picture is the house my son created.

Christmas Craft Activity

All the little kiddies should be getting a break from school soon, and you will need a way to entertain them. Sweet Paul has directions on making a simple pop up card. If you don't have a snowflake punch, and don't want to buy one use snowflake stickers.

Or make these cute flowers made of cupcake liners.

Sweet Paul has to be one of my favorite blogs, it is so inspirational. I always feel like I can be creative too after reading his posts.

Handmade Christmas Cards

Here are photos of the first cards I received in the handmade Christmas card exchange. Aren't they really creative. The trees are stitched down with thread. Such a lovely and simple idea.

Busy Making Christmas Cards

I'm busy making Christmas cards. I signed up for a homemade card exchange and thought that it would be great to send out homemade cards to everybody on my list. Which wouldn't be so bad if I was good at crafts, but I'm not. My youngest son helped me this weekend with my very simple cards. I will post pictures after I mail out the cards.

This is one of the best birthday cards I've ever seen for a child. And it's homemade so you can make one for yourself.
