I started making my own pizza dough once I realized that it was one of the few places that my family was getting refined flour. Don't get me wrong, I routinely feed my kids crap. But after having to buy a loaf of white bread from the AMPM, I realized that my youngest son had never seen white bread. He was sceptical of it, and refused to eat a bite. This from a child who refuses to eat anything green, except apples. So that was the end of store bought pizza at our house. I have a simple recipe for pizza dough and almost everything else comes from a can. We now have homemade pizza every Wednesday. It's that simple.
Whole Wheat Pizza Dough Recipe
1 1/2 cups water
1 teaspoon yeast
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1. dissolve yeast into warm water
2. combine flour and salt
3. make a well in center of flour mixture and pour yeast mixture into it
4. knead 10-15 minutes
5. divide dough in half and roll out into 2 pizza crusts
6. top with toppings of your choice and canned pizza sauce. Around here we like pepperoni, cheese, pesto, olives, fresh tomatoes, and bell peppers. You can use whatever you like.
7. bake at 500 degrees until golden.
