Kalon Studio

You need somewhere to put the baby somewhere when he outgrows a cradle. Why not this lovely crib from Kalon Studios? Made from sustainable bamboo and made in Los Angeles, so you can feel good about your $1400 purchase. Another interesting feature is that the top folds down instead of sliding down. The second picture is what my dream nursery would like, but with the fairy lights and Louis Ghost chair.

Bad Mommy

I am jealous of the gratitude that Santa gets from my eight year old. So instead of giving him the Wii he wants for Christmas, I am waiting a couple of months and giving it to him for his birthday. Why let Santa get all the credit.

The Hunt for Aribert Heim "Doctor Death"

One event in history has a big impact on my life. The Holocaust. My grandmother lost all her family members, except one uncle to the Holocaust. To this day, I still can't believe something like that happened.

The thought that Aribert Heim, "Doctor Death", may still be alive and hiding makes me sick to my stomach.

"Heim scared his prisoners to death," said a survivor. The SS doctor operated without anesthetics, and Jewish inmates were poisoned with various insertions directly into the heart in order to induce death more quickly. The doctor wanted to see which poison was the fastest and cheapest way to kill people. When he was bored, it is said that he timed his patients' deaths with a stopwatch. He removed human organs without anesthetic to see how long victims lived. He is also accused of cutting off the head of a murdered Jewish prisoner and boiling off the flesh to enable the skull to be used as an exhibit.

Information regarding the campaign to hunt him down:
  • Dr Aribert Heim, now 93, is highest on leading Nazi hunter and director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center Efraim Zuroff's list (above photo is Efraim holding a picture of Heim)
  • The four countries involved are Chile, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil - where large numbers of Nazis are thought to have fled following World War II.
  • In July 2007, the Austrian Justice Ministry declared that they would pay €50,000 for information leading to his arrest and extradition to Austria. Other rewards include $460,000 from the Wiesenthal Center. Another reward is 270,000 Euros [130,000 euros from the German government; 130,000 euros from the Wiesenthal Center ; and 10,000 from “Operation: Last Chance.”]
  • In early 2006, Heim was believed to be in Chile, where his daughter Waltraud is reported to have lived since the early '70s. Asked about her father's whereabouts by the Chilean authorities, under requests of Germany, Waltraud claimed that Aribert had died in 1993. However, when she tried to recover a million dollar inheritance from him (on an account in his name), she could not provide any death certificate.
  • The former Nazi doctor continues to maintain a bank account in Germany containing more than $1.5 million. In the last five years, €300,000 have been withdrawn from his accounts and transferred to Spain and Denmark.
If you have any information about Heim and his whereabouts contact Operation Last Chance.

Mid Century Children's Decorations

If you splurged on the Heirloom furniture, you need something that matches to accessorize with. My Modern Life is an eBay shop that sells mid century wood toy sculptures. The little deer shown costs $35 and the set of bears costs $398.

More Christmas Cards

I have to order Christmas cards soon, or I'll end up buying something ugly from the grocery. I considered these cute cards letterpressed with chestnuts. They are printed in green and brown soy based ink, instead of the more traditional red and green. A set of eight costs $16. They are available in Fugufugupress etsy store.

Donate to The American Liver Foundation

The American Liver Foundation (ALF) is the nation's leading nonprofit organization promoting liver health and disease prevention. ALF provides research, education and advocacy for those affected by liver-related diseases, including hepatitis.

With the support of donors, the American Liver Foundation can continue to promote education about liver wellness, provide assistance to those affected by and at risk for liver disease, and work to find cures and better treatments for all diseases of the liver.

When country music star Naomi Judd, as a young nurse, was stuck by a needle she contracted Hepatitis C. Her music career ended when her battle against hepatitis began.

Hepatitis C is a disease of the liver that is caused by the hepatitis C virus, or HCV. Chronic hepatitis C is a serious condition that damages the liver and can lead to potentially fatal liver diseases such as cirrhosis, liver failure and liver cancer. One of the most common reasons for liver transplants is damage caused by hepatitis C infection.

You can get hepatitis C if your blood comes into contact with blood from someone who already has the virus. The most common cause of transmission is the sharing of needles and other equipment used to inject illegal drugs. Less common causes of transmission include:

* Sharing a razor, toothbrush or nail clipper with an infected person
* Accidental exposure to infected blood among health care or public safety workers
* Exposure to unclean tattooing or body-piercing instruments
* Unprotected anal sex or exposure to multiple sex partners

In rare cases, hepatitis C can be spread from an infected mother to her child at birth. It cannot be spread by breast-feeding.

Before 1992 there was a risk of getting hepatitis C from blood transfusions. Now all donated blood is tested for HCV so there is almost no risk of getting the disease from blood transfusions.

Help those affected by Hepatitis C and other live diseases by donating to The Liver Foundation.

Heirloom Children's Furniture

This must be the coolest children's furniture ever. It seems very grown up, but not too serious. The collection of chairs, sofas, lamp, sideboard, and table are designed in Sweden. The materials are those used in adult furniture: walnut, birch, and oak with leather upholstery. Priced from $757 - $2057. Over the next 10 years or so it's not so very much.

Peg Perego Skate

I love strollers. Every few months there is a newer, prettier one available. Most of them doing the same exact thing. The stroller is the new handbag. The Peg Perego Skate's hook is that it converts from a stroller to a carriage and back without additional pieces. It also:

Is free standing when closed (because you will need it to while you put the kid in the car).

Closes with the seat attached ( Why do stroller designers design strollers with a two piece fold? Are they forgetting that you will need one hand to hold the baby)

Adjusts in height like a Xplory.

Comes with the adaptor for the Primo Viaggio car seat (one less accessory to buy)

And it does all the other luxury stroller stuff too. It weighs in at 33.7lbs (or a quarter of my body weight). The Skate cost $899 and is expected to ship in late January.

Plant a Tree to Help the Environment

Every Dollar You Give Plants A Tree!
Protecting the environment and making sure it flourishes is an important issue to me. Trees alter the environment in which we live by moderating climate, improving air quality, conserving water, and harboring wildlife.

Help have a tree planted today. Trees will be planted where they are most needed. American Forests have set up certain campaigns to plant trees.
A few examples.
  • California Wildfire Releaf: A fund specifically to restore California forests after receiving an outpouring of questions and requests from California residents and people across the United States. AMERICAN FORESTS has set a goal of planting a million trees in the state.
  • Tree for Tigers: Their goal: 200,000 trees planted in the Russian far east to expand tiger habitat this year
  • IKEA: By planting your trees now, you will join IKEA and American Forests in planting trees to offset CO2 and cool the globe.
  • Trees for the Holidays: Planting trees thru American Forests is a great way to give a gift of trees to a loved one that will never be forgotten. When you sponsor the planting of trees ($1 each, 15-tree minimum) they will send you (or your gift recipient) a personalized tree-planting certificate.
There are many more campaigns you can choose from. Go to American Forest's planting trees site today and help make a difference.

Support a bill to help end genocide in Darfur

Save Darfur
Most people are aware of the genocide occurring in Darfur. Take part in the attempt to stop the genocide. Help www.savedarfur.org

Thanks in part to Darfur activists, a crucial divestment bill is now being considered in the Senate. This bill, which would put much-needed pressure on Sudan to end the violence, has already passed in the House.

However, the bill will need widespread Senate support to ensure it becomes law

Ninna-Nanna Bassinet

Here is another lovely bassinet. Solid hardwood in a nice dark color with a removable basket covered in stone suede microfiber, so it's machine washable. And at $395 it's not too much more than one of those wicker bassinets, especially if it has those lacy covers.

Oh S**t

My lovely curly haired angelic eight year old has a new word. And is using it on regular basis. And when you tell him not to say it he repeats it to you, and asks why. I think I made a mistake the first time he said it. I laughed. It was cute and funny the first time. Now not so much.

Protect Canada's Baby Harp Seals

One of the biggest campaigns I support is animal rights. I found this great way to give a gift and help an animal at the same time. For the holidays, you can purchase one of the animal gifts and give a loved one the included Gift Card showing what you did in their name.

Ninety-five percent of seals killed in Canada's commercial seal hunt are under 3 months old. A Gift for Baby Seals supports IFAW’s efforts to stop the hunt by providing equipment needed to monitor sealers and expose the cruelty of the hunt to the world.

Your IFAW Gift for Baby Seals makes it possible to reveal the truth about what happens year after year on the ice.

Give $25.00 and it pays for a seal hunt observation permit to document ongoing cruelty and abuse.

Give $50.00 and it funds a campaign to prosecute anyone caught abusing seals.

Give $75.00 and it buys a survival suit for seal hunt monitors.

Give $500.00 and it buys a waterproof video camera to document the seal hunt.

Give $1330.00 and it pays for one hour of flight time to bring a seal surveillance team to the ice.

Other gifts you can buy:

During the winter months in Russia, wealthy hunters pay more than US$2,000 each to rouse bears from hibernation and kill them without knowing whether they are male or female. After the adult bear is killed, many cubs are abandoned to die. Some are given to local villagers to be kept as pets or kept in zoos or circuses. There is also a demand for bear meat in hunting restaurants.

IFAW is helping to rehabilitate Russian bear cubs orphaned by hunters so they can be released back into protected forests. We are also campaigning for a ban on killing hibernating bears in Russia, which leaves hundreds of cubs to die. Your gift will help nurse one of these orphaned bear cubs back to new life.

Ivory poachers are killing African and Asian elephants at an alarming rate ... and crucial elephant habitat is disappearing every day. Unfortunately, poachers and illegal ivory traders often have the upper hand. Under-equipped and under-staffed African wildlife law enforcement agencies are easily outmaneuvered in their attempts to fight poaching by sophisticated crime syndicates operating freely across national borders.

Even limited ivory sales lead to the widespread slaughter of elephants. Anti-poaching rangers in many regions lack government support and funding for personnel and equipment. Rangers risk their lives everyday to save the elephants, with hundreds killed each year. Your gift goes to providing these brave rangers with the equipment and skills they need to win the fight against poachers.

IFAW's Community-Linked Animal Welfare program brings pet care to those who need it most: reducing pet populations through sterilization and vaccinating the pets of some of world's poorest people. CLAW also has an excellent education outreach component that teaches responsible pet care to people and children in the areas where it works.

When disaster strikes, IFAW's Emergency Relief team rushes to save animals from suffering and abandonment. For those who lose everything in a disaster, their pets are all they have left to give them comfort and strength. Your gift to Emergency Relief helps save stranded marine mammals, clean endangered birds after oil spills, and rescue orphaned, injured, or mistreated animals.

Your Gift Includes

This is the perfect holiday gift. To purchase these gifts, visit IFAW's Animal Gift site.

The 9/11 Myth

I suggested that everyone should watch Zeitgeist. The 9/11 Myth is covered in the movie.

What are your thoughts on 9/11? Inside job? Terrorists?

Watch these videos and learn about the The 9/11 Myth. Perhaps it will change your mind, or just make your opinions even stronger.

Lots of information on the North American Union

If you're like me, you are doing research on the North American Union and trying to find as much information on the concept as you can. I found a great website on Source Watch about the North American Union. Check the site out.

Help Give the Gift of Hope

This holiday there will be millions of children around the world who suffer from hunger every day.

Discover a new way to show your loved ones that you care

Give a gift through the World Food Programme's catalog that helps hungry children and gives a loved one a gift.

Some examples of gifts:

$24: Feed and educate a young girl for 6 months

Poor families tend to rely on their daughter’s labor at home or the workplace. Your donation will provide take-home rations that ease the economic burden on parents, encouraging them to keep their daughters in school.

$36: Provide food, education and health/sanitation to a child for a year

A nutritious meal at school is often a poor child’s only meal of the day and that school is often in need of basic sanitation, health facilities and clean drinking water. Your donation can give a poor child the right conditions for a healthy mind and body.

$92: Can provide nutrition for a pregnant or lactating mother for 12 months

Malnourished mothers give birth to malnourished children. Your gift can provide proper nutrition to a mother and ensure that her child gets a healthy start by receiving the necessary nutrition to grow and develop.

Visit the Gift of Hope's site to purchase your gift to help a hungry child.

The North American Union

One of the main reasons I decided to create this blog is the information I read regarding the creation of the "North American Union". I found it disturbing, and it really made me think about the power of the people. When I say 'the people', I'm not refering to people associated with world governments. I mean us. I wonder if we all ignore what is happening in our world. Do we pretend everything is fine and go about our daily routine blinded by what we want to see. What do we see? Most people don't want to see the wrong in the world. Why should they care they ask themselves. You should care. Its time for us to make some change and wake up to what is happening around us. So, to begin my blog, I bring you the North American Union. Never hear of it? I'm not surprised. To better educate yourself, I recommend watching Zeitgeist- The Movie . It is long, but worth the watch. For now you can watch this clip:

Tell me what you think.

Cool Stuff From Other Blogs

These are the best looking bunk beds I have ever seen. They were designed by Philippe Allaeys. There is no top rail, so a little one couldn't sleep up there, at least not my little one.

I love a pretty menorah. I'm not Jewish, but that hasn't stopped my affection. This bronze menorah is designed by Rick Wessner. $390

Bugaboo Baby Nest

I love the look of the Bugaboo Bee with the baby nest. I just wonder if they would look so nice in actual usage. I have seen pictures of both looking rather limp, and they are not as pretty. The Bee is $529 and the Nest is $99.95.

Black Friday

I won't be joining the cattle drive known as Black Friday. I can't think of anything to buy that would drag me out of my warm bed of 4 or 5 in the morning. Too many crowds, too much traffic, and way too much hype.

Happy Thanksgiving

Have a lovely Thanksgiving. I will be having a very traditional Thanksgiving day. Not feeling well enough to deal with my family, I intend on being very drunk most of the day. I plan on starting the vodka and tonics with lunch, and not stopping until after dessert.

Tuesday's Child

Internet boutique Tuesday's Child sells many of the top designer brands like Little Marc, D&G, Burberry , Armani Junior, Miss Blumarine, and Lili Gaufrette. I am thinking of buying these Little Marc jeans for my eight year old. They are are on sale $60.39, a savings of over $30.

The Thanksgiving Miracle

Last night my Grandmother's small church had 20 turkey boxes to give away. By the end of the night they had given away over 300. As they gave more just kept coming in. Water into wine indeed.

Dress Code Violations

Hey girls, if we can see the fold of your butt under the hem of your skirt, the school is going to send you home to change. Just warning you.

Wall Hanging

Wall hangings are a dime a dozen in decorating kids' rooms. But this one is different. Designed by the brilliant Tord Boontje for Swarovski, it is made up of clear or jet colored crystals. It would be something different to hang in a little girl's room.

Lieto Figurine by Alessi

There is something about this little porcelain figurine that makes me happy. It is available here for $35.

Adiri Natural Nurser

I bought the Adiri Natural Nurser as an impulse purchase. I intended to breastfeed, so a bottle was a weird purchase. The bottle is polycarbonate-free, and easy to fill. You just turn it upside down in the bottle cap and fill it from the bottom. The nipple feels so soft. I love this thing. It's worth every cent of the $12.95 plus shipping.

Bad Mommy

Maybe I spend too much time watching cartoons with my kids. But are Spongebob and Patrick gay?

Felt Cupcakes

How sweet is this felt cupcake? It is $25 at Hodge podge design's Etsy shop.

Playmobil Romans

I wish my youngest would add this to his Christmas List. Even though he may just end with switches and coal in his stocking. When I saw the Playmobil extra-large Colosseum set on Eternally Cool I was so excited. This thing is like three feet across. Just think of all the fun we could have playing with it. But my youngest is eight and playing with Mommy just isn't cool at all. It costs $89.99, but looks like it would be worth every dime.
