The Stroller Reimagined

Toren Orzeck has designed a stroller that can be used long after your baby has outgrown it. The Go-Go Transporter is a finalist in the 2010 IDEA awards. It is designed to be used as a stroller, then convert to a wagon, a piece of luggage, or a dolly. It's just a concept now and it will probably never get made, but innovation usually starts as a strange concept.

The Magic Clock

I don't know why know why someone hasn't thought of this before. The Magic Clock is a clock that uses Twitter to tell the location of family members. It's like Mrs.Weasley's clock from Harry Potter. Unfortunately this thing isn't for sale, because it's what I want for Christmas.

Babycotpod

It is always cool to see what designers come up with when they have children. Shaun Milburn, a design engineer was look for a modern alternative to the Moses basket when his second son was born last year. The Babycotpod is his answer to that problem.

If the bassinet goes into production, it will be available in two models. The Cascara will have a hood and a retractable handles. The Cuba lacks a hood but still has carry handles. Either model can be placed on the wood or plastic Tang stand.

Shaun hopes to have the Babycotpod in production by the end of the year.

Aldo Barreto's Samsonite Tot-Pod

Who knew that Samsonite held a design competition for baby travel products. The Tot-Pod concept by Aldo Barreto is a folding car seat that will dock onto a stroller base. The design is based on a folding clam shell phone. The all in one seat is intended to be used from birth until the child no longer needs a car seat. And from the look of the drawings it docks into the car seat base like the Orbit. You slide the seat into the base and rotate it into place. But don't fall too much in love with Barreto's design, it is just a concept after all. And really cool concepts almost never get made.

The deadline for this year's comptetion is 30 April, so hurry up and submit your design. More Photos Below

MP3 Stethoscope

You have to wonder why some prototypes never get made. They could market a stethoscope that records heartbeats at expectant parents and sell a ton. Because that is precisely what the Beforme stethoscope does it records heartbeats on the built in MP3 player. It also displays a graph of the heartbeat.

Carbon Fiber Car Seat

This prototype car seat was created by design student , Rory Craig. The whole frame is made of carbon fiber. The seat was inspired by race car seats and the carbon fiber makes it extremely lightweight. But even better than the weight is the fact that it is designed to be a three stage car seat, to be used from birth until the kid is 100 pounds. Craig even thought of how to use it as a baby carrier (The designer probably doesn't have kids because most convertible car seats are to big to be carried, and this one is no exception by the looks of it.)

But sadly it probably will never be made.

The Future Of Sonography

Wouldn't it be cool if 4D sonography was more like this, instead of the ugly dark room with a exam table that it is now.

IStroll Prototype

Check out this stroller prototype designed for the Ipod Nano. I love the seat, but it doesn't look very practical. There isn't a harness or padding. But it looks cool, that's what prototype are for. They don't need to do anything but look cool.

I Want This Now

I love this car seat, but it sadly will probably never see a production line. The Nestt by Think/Thing is one of the coolest car seats ever. It looks like a mid-century egg chair, offers extended side impact protection, can be used forward or backwards, swivels for ease of baby insertion, has only six moving parts, the cushions can be changed. Maybe by the time I finally manage to concieve it will be in production.
